Our galvanized cable trunking is a closed, rectangular steel channel with a removable lid, protected by a zinc coating. It encloses the cables completely, so it gives a neat appearance and strong physical protection, and the steel body is stiffer than aluminum, which allows longer support spacing. It is a cost-effective choice for exposed indoor routes in offices, commercial buildings, factories, and equipment rooms, with a lid that can be opened whenever cables need to be added or changed.

Key Features
- Fully enclosed: the base, sides, and lid enclose the cables and keep out dust and accidental contact
- Zinc-coated steel: the galvanized coating protects the steel from rust in normal indoor conditions
- Strong and stiff: steel carries more load and spans further between supports than aluminum
- Neat appearance: clean lines, and can be powder coated on request to match the building
- Easy cable access: a removable lid lets cables be added or changed without taking the trunking down
- Complete system: matching bends, tees, reducers, end caps, and lids can be supplied
- Cost effective: usually lower in cost than aluminum or stainless steel trunking

Galvanized Steel or Aluminum Trunking?
| Galvanized steel | Aluminum | |
|---|---|---|
| Strength and stiffness | Higher, supports can be further apart | Lower, so supports may need to be closer |
| Weight | Heavier | Much lighter |
| Corrosion resistance | Depends on the zinc layer | Good without a coating |
| Cost | Usually lower | Usually higher |
| Fire performance | Holds its strength to a higher temperature | Softens at a lower temperature |
Good to Know
- Pre-galvanized or hot-dip: the two finishes protect differently. Pre-galvanized suits dry indoor routes, and hot-dip galvanized suits humid, outdoor, or industrial routes. Tell us which one your project needs
- Cut edges: cutting on site exposes bare steel, so treat cut edges with a suitable zinc-rich touch-up product
- Check the fill: a closed channel gives less airflow, so check cable ratings and fill if the cables run warm
- Grounding: joints and the lid should be bonded and tested according to your project specification
- Harsh environments: in strongly corrosive places such as coastal or chemical areas, stainless steel may be a better choice
