Our aluminum cable trunking is a closed, rectangular channel with a removable lid, made from lightweight, corrosion-resistant aluminum alloy. It encloses the cables completely, so it gives a neat appearance and good physical protection, and it is much lighter than steel trunking, which makes it quick to cut, handle, and fix to walls and ceilings. Aluminum resists rust without a zinc or paint coating, so it suits indoor routes where weight, appearance, and ease of installation matter.

Key Features
- Fully enclosed: the base, sides, and lid enclose the cables and keep out dust and accidental contact
- Lightweight: much lighter than steel trunking, which cuts handling effort and load on the fixings
- Corrosion resistant: a natural oxide layer protects the surface, with no coating to chip or wear off
- Neat appearance: clean lines, with finishes and colors available to suit the building
- Easy cable access: a removable lid lets cables be added or changed without taking the trunking down
- Easy to cut and modify: the material is easy to cut and drill on site
- Complete system: matching bends, tees, reducers, end caps, and lids can be supplied

Aluminum or Steel Trunking?
| Aluminum | Galvanized steel | |
|---|---|---|
| Weight | Much lighter | Heavier |
| Corrosion resistance | Good without a coating | Depends on the zinc layer |
| Strength and stiffness | Lower, so supports may need to be closer | Higher |
| Appearance | Clean, with finishes available | Clean, usually painted or galvanized |
| Cost | Usually higher | Usually lower |
Good to Know
- Check the fill: a closed channel gives less airflow, so check cable ratings and fill if the cables run warm
- Match the hardware: use aluminum or stainless steel fasteners. Plain carbon steel hardware in contact with aluminum can cause corrosion at the joint
- Grounding: aluminum is conductive, but joints and the lid should be bonded and tested according to your project specification
- Allow for expansion: aluminum moves more than steel when temperature changes, so long runs may need expansion joints
- Fire requirements: aluminum softens at a lower temperature than steel, so check the project's fire requirements before choosing it for a fire-rated route
