Our FRP (fiberglass reinforced plastic) cable trunking is a closed, rectangular channel with a removable lid, made from glass fiber reinforced with resin. It does not rust or corrode, does not conduct electricity, and is light for its strength, so it suits chemical plants, coastal sites, water treatment plants, and other places where metal trunking corrodes quickly. The lid can be opened whenever cables need to be added or changed.

Key Features
- Corrosion resistant: does not rust, and resists many acids, alkalis, salt, and moisture, depending on the resin used
- Non-conductive: does not carry current, and is non-magnetic
- Lightweight: much lighter than steel trunking, which makes it easy to carry, cut, and install
- Fully enclosed: the base, sides, and lid enclose the cables and keep out dust and accidental contact
- Low maintenance: no coating to chip or repaint, and a long service life in harsh areas
- Easy cable access: a removable lid lets cables be added or changed without taking the trunking down
- Complete system: matching bends, tees, reducers, end caps, lids, and supports can be supplied

- Tunnels, mines, and other damp or corrosive areas
FRP or Metal Trunking?
| FRP | Galvanized or stainless steel | |
|---|---|---|
| Corrosion resistance | Excellent in many chemical and salty areas | Depends on the zinc layer or the steel grade |
| Electrical conduction | Non-conductive | Conductive |
| Weight | Light | Heavier |
| Strength and stiffness | Lower, so supports may need to be closer | Higher |
| Temperature limits | Lower, set by the resin | Higher |
| Cost | Depends on the resin and size | Galvanized is usually lower, stainless is higher |
Good to Know
- Choose the resin by environment: different resins resist different chemicals and temperatures, so tell us the chemicals and temperature on site
- Not a ground path: FRP does not conduct, so it cannot carry a fault current. If a grounding conductor is required, run it alongside as the project specifies
- Fire requirements: check the flame-retardant grade and test standard against the project specification, since FRP behaves differently from metal in a fire
- Sunlight: for outdoor routes, confirm UV protection in the resin or surface layer
- Support spacing: FRP is less stiff than steel, so follow the manufacturer's recommended support spacing and load data
- Cutting on site: seal cut edges with resin as the manufacturer instructs, and wear a dust mask when cutting
